We get quite a few requests to carry books from new and independently-published authors. Here are a few answers to some of the most frequently-asked questions, and criteria for books in our store:

If you don’t see the answer to your question listed, please contact us at info@verbbookstore.com.

  • How do I get my book in your bookstore?

With the volume of requests that we receive from authors, we simply cannot carry all of the books that we’d like. Certain guidelines must be met for us to consider carrying a book, and certain topics/genres are not as in-demand here as they may be in bigger cities. We have to take a lot of things into consideration.

IF YOU ARE TRADITIONALLY OR INDEPENDENTLY PUBLISHED AND AVAILABLE THROUGH WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTORS: if your book appeals to our customer base, we will order through our normal distributors (generally, we shop through Ingram).

IF YOU ARE INDEPENDENTLY PUBLISHED AND SELF-DISTRIBUTE YOUR BOOKS: We work on a case-by-case basis, and we require a minimum 40% discount to buy books. Please message us to discuss your book further if these terms are acceptable!

IF YOU ARE PUBLISHED THROUGH AMAZON: We are sorry, but due to the direct competition and price undercutting, we do not carry any titles published through Amazon.

All books should be professionally bound and edited. We do not take books with glaring grammatical errors (yes, this has been an issue in the past). If you choose to drop off or mail us a copy, it will be considered a free copy for review.

  • How should I contact you about my book?

All information should be sent through email. We cannot accommodate any walk-in visits, and we do not have a telephone. During open hours, we are focused on customer service duties and stock management tasks that keep our business operational.

    In your email, please include:

    • Your name

    • City

    • Contact Info

    • Title of your book

    • Copyright Info (publication date, ISBN, etc)

    • Link to a website about your book (NOT B&N or Amazon)

  • Can I have a signing at your store?

Maybe! We plan our event calendar several months in advance, but we are always open to hearing about new ideas! Please send all event inquiries to info@verbbookstore.com. In your email, please include:

    • Your name

    • City

    • Contact Info

    • Title of your book

    • Copyright Info (publication date, ISBN, etc)

    • Link to a website about your book (NOT B&N or Amazon)

    • At least three dates that would work for your schedule.

Any promotional material will be collected after your event is booked with us!

Congratulations on your new book! We personally know how hard it is to make it to that finish line and get published, and we are proud of your hard work and dedication! We also greatly appreciate your consideration of our little store as a retailer for your work.
